My husband, the genius…

Why, you ask, does Mr G suddenly earn such tremendous praise? Well, it has everything to do with Mr L and his “claws”.

One of the joyous side effects of Mr L’s giftedness is his “sensory overexcitablities”. It got to 39 degrees today (very very hot) and he’s still getting about in socks because he hates the feel of bare feet. He had his hands on his ears when I was saying No very loudly to Mr A while he was trying to scale the bookshelf. And as for cutting his claws fingernails… it typically takes 1/2 hr or more of tears and tantrums from all of us to get them done. Don’t get me going on doing his toenails.

So tonight, Mr G comes up with a plan. If Mr L lets us cut one set of nails, he gets 20 cents. Two sets, 50 cents. If he gets both hands and toes done at the same time, he earns $2. This kid is savvy enough to do the math and realise that there’s $$$ to be made from this. So Mr G drew up a contract to sign. The only condition is that there must be no “pork chopping” while they’re getting cut (pork chopping is code for carrying on like a crazy man).

I don’t know why we didn’t think of this before. This could work.

We’re all very excited about the prospect of tantrum free nail trimming or getting money. And why not, I say? We normally wouldn’t stoop to bribery, but this might make life for us all a little easier.

Fingernails crossed.

Catch ya…

I’ve done that in the past and still use the $$$$$ to get my son to do something I want him to do not something he wants to do. When he was little he got a dollar to sleep in his own bed….long story…..probably cost me $25, but it was worth it. Now we are trying to get him more active, they started a walking club at school so for every “toe token” he brings home he gets $5.00 which equals 5 miles.
