Trick or…
Treat.
Here’s a little treat for you, courtesy of the generosity of Barb Johnson. She made it using papers from my “Bursting with Colour” papers 1 and 2, in the SBB store, and has allowed me to share it with you here. Thanks Barb!
You can download it here.

Why is it…
Ok, explain to me – why, when you’re a kid, you don’t want to sleep?
When does that magical transformation occur when sleep suddenly becomes a valuable commodity?
Mr L is up at 6am (or earlier) every day, and Mr A has decided that a bottle in the middle of the night is back on the menu. And that daytime sleep might not be what the “cool babies” are into either. He’s been in there less than 45 minutes and I can hear him talking.
*sigh* I had a list of things to do today, and it looks like, once again, they’ll be a mad rush at 7pm when he goes to bed. I can’t win at the moment.

Balance…
Another busy weekend gone by. Mr L went to my parents for the weekend, so he had a ball - as did my parents apparently! Mr A and Mr G stayed home and hung around the house in the freezing cold (ran out of gas, and we’re not on the summer run, so no heat until May unless we get wood in). I think my husband has a new appreciation for what happens here when he’s not each day now!
On Saturday I drove for 2 hours to spend 7 hours in a lecture on gifted children. This taught me a few things – a) I don’t think I can go back to formal study again, b) I can do a lot (and learn a lot) in 7 hours and c) Mr L is most definitely gifted. It’s an incredible feeling to sit and listen to someone talking about children that has pertinent relevance to your child and your situation. A lot of it was confirmation of what I already knew about Mr L but there were a few enlightening things. I had no idea, for example, about “overexcitabilities” – intense reactions to things. Right from the start, there’s been… oddreactions to things. You know when kids have had enough food, how they cover their mouth to indicate they’re finished? Not Mr L – he used to cover his ears. Freaks out at certain noises, can’t stand water on his face, hair washing or nail-cutting, couldn’t touch bananas, still has trouble with the texture of play-doh, hated bare feet and grass, and then there was the whole “had to wear socks in the bath” phase we went through at 2…. Turns out, it’s perfectly…. “normal”. As is the meltdowns he occasionally still has, especially when he’s tired. Panic attacks and tears over something small, like misplacing a toy or forgetting to bring something to school. Do you know what a relief it is to know that this is all ok, and
not a reflection on you, your parenting skills, your child, that it’s just how it is with kids like this? And I found this the other day – E=mc2 – in the dust on our heater. I must remember that it is mostly good. And exciting. Understanding it goes a long way towards dealing with it.
Mr A, on the other hand, is mostly mobile now. Not crawling, not really commando crawling either -more of a “seal” movement. He’s also wanting a bottle at night, about to pop his first tooth, down to 3 hrs sleep in the day, up at 6am and ready to go, a massive sticky beak and talking like a crazy man. Phew. He had his first tast of vegemite on toast for lunch today, and loved it. I’m with him there. Yum, yum. Now, hopefully, he’ll have a sleep so I can get some new stuff up to the store. He had 1/2 hr this morning, which is not enough for either of us!

5 weird things…
Yep, been tagged by Jodie. Name 5 weird things about yourself or your pets. (What? Only 5??) I’m going to do me and my pets.
- I’m terrified of goannas. Scared out of my mind of goannas. But I used to work in a zoo and handle snakes every day and that never worried me. I once tackled a student teacher to the ground because I saw a goanna in a tree in our classroom. It was stuffed. I knew that too. I had to apologise….
- My cat used to whine all the time and want us to watch him eat. Drove us nuts. Until we changed the brand of cat food. And he stopped doing it. And gained weight. And relaxed. He was six when that happened….
- We do this weird thing here if we call someone “super”. If it’s Super Mum – it’s Super Mum! With built-in added mumness and super mum powers! Or the cat, Bazzill, is Super B! With built-in super bness and super b powers. You get the idea….
- Speaking of Baz, when he was a kitten he was scared of birds. He did what we would call “safety stalking” – he’d sit in the window and yowl at them, and stalk them from inside the house. If he went outside, he was scared of them and would hide…
- When I was little, I got both hands caught in two mouse traps. I still don’t like mouse traps….
There you go. A little insight into my world.
I can’t believe there’s all these Uno fans out there! Bretta, I’m with you on the “new” style cards – don’t like them at all! My poor hubby kept looking longingly at the old “proper” deck as he called it. I kept getting the Draw 2 and the 2 mixed up and what on earth is the deal with underlining the 6 AND the 9? Madness. And Am, as for Uno Attack, I’d already had a word to Santa and guess what he’s bringing? It’s been in Santa’s special stockpile for a month now and I’m not sure I can wait until Christmas!
I have still done no digi stuff this week. Well next to nothing, at least. I’m wasting time, I know it, but my head is full of other stuff and apparently doesn’t have room for everything. Shame, huh? Better go and do something now, before Mr A wakes up and wants to practice his new found moving skills.

You know…
Uno? We love it here. I’ve just bought a new set of cards. The old set was getting impossible to shuffle. When I say old, I mean old. Around 25 years old. My brother and I played with them when we were kids. They owe us nothing. They’ll go away in a drawer somewhere, because there’s nothing wrong with them. Just looking very rough around the edges. The new ones are…. so new, and shiny and different. I dare say they’ll grow on us.
It’s early Wednesday afternoon and I’ve got nothing done this week. Nothing. Nothing tangible at least. Lots of phone calls, lots of numbers run through the calculator, lots of thinking about where we’re heading. We thought we’d made a decision, ran the numbers one final time and now we’re back to square one. I think we must be grown-ups now.
I’d better get going. Got a nice man coming to look at my house soon. And another later on. Oops, he’s here now. No time like the present…

Thank you…
to everyone for your lovely birthday wishes. I had a great day with my family. It’s my brother’s birthday today, so this weekend is party weekend at our place.
Today was supposed to be the “hang around the house and maybe get some stuff done” day, but it turned into “lets go out and see what we can see” day instead. That’s ok, I like a bit of an outing, and today was interesting. The downside is I’ve got nothing done this weekend. Oh well. That’s how life is sometimes.
Tomorrow’s the start of another busy week and I’d better start making a list of things I want to try and acheive – ha.

We have a winner…
Lisa’s right – I’m 34 tomorrow. (check your inbox Lisa!) Thanks for the birthday wishes. My brother’s birthday is the next day, so it’s party weekend for us.
How did 34 happen??
I remember turning 10 (I remember thinking I was in double figures now), 21 (nearly finished uni), 24 (got our first house on my 24th birthday), 27 (pregnant with Mr L), 30 (in Corryong, on the way to Canberra on holidays), 33 (happily pregnant with Mr A) and bingo – we’re at 34.
Sooooo, how is my ‘graceful’ aging impacting you? Spend more than $5 on my stuff at the SBB store and get 34% off automatically at checkout. Buuuut, because you’ve been nice and wandered to my blog and played along, use the code hbday2meand get a further 26% off. That’s… (metally adding up….) a very nice saving indeed! But it’s only for 24 hours.
